Reading to Your Baby Outdoors - Outdoor Education
Have you been feeling like you’re stuck inside watching your baby 24/7 while you want to enjoy the nice and hot summer weather outdoors? Sometimes it can feel like you’re a little trapped as a new parent… like “baby jail”. Don’t worry - you’re not alone!
This July, Fawn and Doe Baby Co. is here for you with some tips on how to get the most out of the warm summer months with your baby! And in this blog post, we’ll be talking about one specific activity where you can enjoy the warm summer ambience AND bond with your little one.
Reading to your baby has long been considered a super beneficial activity to both your baby’s learning skills and their bond with you! And the best part? You can easily do it outdoors and enjoy some fresh air at the same time. Here are some tips to make the most of it!
#1: Lie down on a towel or blanket together.
Laying on your back with your baby next to you, holding the book in the air, is perfect because your little one won’t be tempted to grab it and they can focus on the pictures in the book instead. Your arms will get tired after a little while, but this is a great way to get through the book together and afterwards, you can enjoy a little bit of cloud-watching!
#2. Do voices while reading.
You might feel like a total dork while doing this - but hearing your baby’s giggle is so worth it! It’s a great way to bond and entertain both of you.
#3. Point to the pictures together.
As you read, you can hold your baby’s finger and point to pictures that match up with your narration. Over time, this will help them to learn and recognize objects in the pictures.
Reading to babies has been proven to build memory, listening, and learning abilities! It also helps them learn communication skills - and combining all of this with the great outdoors is a perfect learning experience for them!
